Hy-Vee Triathlon

It turned out to be a great weekend in Des Moines. The weather cooperated and we even got to swim despite all the concern of flooding and bacteria in the lake. I was hoping to beat 2:25 and did, so I would say a successful day. Think I could of shaved a couple more minutes off if it would have been possible to warm up. It took me a long time to get my legs underneath me after the swim. Good training day & great confidence builder for the Ironman. I got stronger as each event went on and my heart rate dropped despite going faster... Very nice...

June 2nd - Last 2 weeks recap

I'm back... Sorry for the lack of updates over the last couple of weeks. Despite a basketball knee injury the last couple of weeks have been pretty eventful. Over memorial day I took 2 straight days off - I needed it! First time since I started training for the Ironman 12-25-07 that I've had 2 straight days off. Chris and Lisa (my friends from Chicago) came down we had a nice relaxing weekend together.

Sara and I spend an afternoon kayaking together. We went on the Iowa River from Iowa City to Hills. Took about 2 1/2 hours. Its was a blast! Something different. Thank you lord for not ever making me swim in that river! Nasty!

Then last weekend we tackeled the Dam 2 Dam run in DSM. It's 12.4 miles, so just short of a half marathon. Sara and I never quite got into a rhythm however we still finished it averaging 7:30/mile pace. I was battling my knee for a bit however I kept getting stronger over the long haul. I was pleased with that - goes to show Mental Toughness is very powerful. Kelli (Sara's sister) and Brittany (friend of mine from Iowa City) also ran it that morning and did very well! Congrats to them!

Next thing on the agenda --> I'm doing a 106 mile bike ride this coming Saturday from Davenport to Dubuque and then racing over to DSM to watch Sara in her 1st Triathlon on Sunday. It's competitive season - so the weekends start gettting busy! It's time to start putting all that training to the test! More to come!
